Webinar to discuss sociological perspectives on the corona crisis

Just one week after the lockdown in Denmark on 13 March, the Faculty of Social Sciences granted the first funds for immediate research into the corona crisis, and no less than six out of seven projects ended up receiving sociological contributions.

Three of these projects are now at the centre of a webinar on 29 October organised by the Danish Sociological Association and the Faculty of Social Sciences, where researchers will discuss the social consequences of the epidemic based on the projects.

The speakers and topics are:

• Postdoc Jonas Toubøl: Solidarity and volunteering in the COVID-19 crisis: Supply and demand of support in informal networks and social media communities
• Associate Professor Merlin Schaeffer: Where have all the Danes gone? A weekly online panel on changed everyday activities and routines during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Associate Professor Anna Ilsøe: Atypical workers in atypical times: how the corona crisis reveals blind spots in Nordic labour market data

In addition to the discussion on the impact of the corona crisis, the three researchers will also reflect on the challenges of having to conduct research under time pressure in the midst of a societal crisis. Normally, research can span over many months or years. In this case, the first results from the research were supposed to be disseminated within a few weeks.

The host and chair of the event is Pelle Korsbæk Sørensen, who is an assistant professor at the Center for Health Promotion Research at Roskilde University and vice chair of the Danish Sociological Association.
