How residential mobility can affect immigrants’ subjective well-being
For many people owning a home with your own backyard is considered part of a good life.
Merlin Schaeffer, the Department of Sociology, and Sarah Carol, University College Dublin, will provide an investigation of how moving into mainstream suburbs affects immigrant minorities’ subjective well-being. The new project is supported by the German Research Council.
- We will look into the benefits of moving to a mainstream middle-class neighborhood, but also what it means for persons of immigrant origin, if they no longer live in a multi-ethnic community with easy access to certain shops, religious facilities or cultural associations, sociologist Merlin Schaeffer says.
The project is located at WZB Berlin Social Science Center and runs for two years.
