Inauguration lecture: Professor Kristian Karlson

Education, the Great Equalizer? What 15 Years of Sociological Research Taught Me

Many regard education as a key vehicle for promoting social mobility. In this inaugural lecture, Professor Karlson challenges this view, drawing on 15 years of his own and others' research into this central sociological topic. He will explore whether expanding educational opportunities necessarily leads to more mobility, and whether a college degree can truly disrupt the long-lasting influence of family background.

Professor Kristian Karlson will be having his inaugural lecture on Thursday November 14th.

Professor Kristian Karlson took up the position as full professor 1 July 2024. Since 2013, Karlson has done research on inequality, inheritance and mobility. After his lecture the Department of Sociology will be hosting a reception.
